Today I found out that Nissan offers a “factory” bed tent for the new Titan
$260 financed. I mean...its not the worst accessory I’ve seen on a vehicles build page.

Also optional. Stinky, hot neoprene waterproof seat covers!

I like the idea. I wonder how it is in practice. For $260 Im not expecting it to be waterproof for more than a year or so.

We got my Brother in law a bed tent when they got their Taco - like this one;
He goes out fishing/camping on his own and just needs a spot to sleep - I’d sooner do a platform in the canopy myself but it works for him.

Pictured was kinja’d. I’ve often wondered about this as it seems kind like a huge waste of time given that you would have to take everything out of the bed to deploy it...in which case just set up a tent on the ground.

I’ve always used a regular tent but I can see where the bed tent could have advantages. The bed is up away from both critters and water and you could probably make a bed more comfortable in it than on the ground. It also gives you more usable space in your camp since you don’t have a tent taking it up. When we’re camping we always unload everything from the truck to make getting to it easier anyway.

Pros and cons. you make great points but it also means your truck is stuck being a campsite if you need it for anything. I guess if that’s not an issue and you plan on staying at a site for a few days than its pretty ideal for the money. Personally it would be hard for me to buy any other car camping tent than my springbar, but I realize that they have their downsides too. Though man...once you stake it out and if you have the room in the car and on the site (10x10 and like 60 lbs) they are the way to go.

The kind of critters I worry about are still able to get through a truck tent..
The one he’s got is a Napier, they make a bunch of different models though.

It’s pretty cool, Ford doesn’t have it on ford.com but you can get it (when purchasing and rolled in) added on through Ford Accessories in all bed lengths.
I like that you can get this crazy one that slides over an SUV, you’re not off the ground but you have interior access which is nice:

been tempted to add the ARB room to my awning for tent duties.
Its dirt cheap if you have the awning already.

Looks like that would work nicely assuming it’s ok to be on the ground. I’m surprised you don’t have a roof tent knowing you lol

Roof tents...the jury is out but one thing I know for sure, my $1000 can be better spent elsewhere right now. I don’t mind being on the ground. For me my preference goes:
Inside truck
in my springbar
under the stars on my roof (not there yet)
under the stars on the ground.

Haha I’d roll off the roof and die in my sleep!
Yeah I wouldn’t drop 100 either. I have a real nice “8 person” tent from coleman that would happily sit on the ground and it’s water proof-ness has been tested multiple times lol.

I really want an EXPO rack I can toss a bedroll onto and sack out.
You can get a super simple low profile full rack that flips down for clearance (required) and flips up to provide a low ledge to prevent you from rolling off. That and a thick pad, a down blanket and my pillow all rolled up in some duck canvas sounds like the right combo for me.
